सारस और लोमड़े की कहानी
बहुत समय पहले की बात है। किसी जंगल में मुजाहिद नाम का लोमड़ा और सरताज नाम का सारस एक साथ रहते थे। दोनों में बहुत अच्छी दोस्ती भी थी। वो दोनों मिलकर सुख दुःख की बातें भी किया करते थे। लेकिन फिर भी दोनों का आपस में स्वभाव नहीं मिलता था।
लोमड़ा बहुत चालाक और कंजूस था। वह दूसरों से वस्तुएँ लेना तो जानता था लेकिन स्वार्थी होने के कारण किसी को अपनी कोई भी वस्तु देना उसे अच्छा नहीं लगता था। एक दिन जब वे दोनों मिलकर बातें कर रहे थे तो दोनों ने एक दूसरे के घर जाकर खाना खाने की योजना बनाई। मुजाहिद लोमड़े ने पहले अपने घर पर सरताज सारस को खाने पर बुलाया।
लोमड़ा सबसे खाना तो जानता था लेकिन खिलाना नहीं। उसने सोचा ऐसी कौन सी चीज़ बनाऊँ जो अच्छी भी लगे लेकिन सारस खा भी न सके। उसके दिमाग में खीर बनाने का आईडिया आया। क्योंकि खीर दिखने में अच्छी और स्वादिष्ट भी लगेगी और सारस आसानी से खा भी नहीं सकेगा।
दूसरे दिन सारस अपने दोस्त मुजाहिद लोमड़े के घर खाना खाने आ गया। वह अपने भोले स्वाभाव के कारण बहुत ख़ुश दिखाई दे रहा था। लोमड़ा बहुत चालाक था। सारस को घर आया देख उसे ख़ुश रखने के लिए चिकनी चुपड़ी और मीठी मीठी बातें करने लगा।

जब खाने का वक़्त हुआ तो लोमड़े ने जानबूझ कर एक चौड़ी थाली में खीर परोस दी। दोनों ने खीर खाना शुरू की। लोमड़ा तो मज़े में खीर खाता रहा और अपनी खीर की तारीफ भी करता रहा। अब बेचारा भोला भाला सारस कभी अपनी चोंच को देखता तो कभी थाली में परोसी हुई खीर को देखता। सारस की चोंच में खीर का एक एक दाना भी बड़ी मुश्किल से आ रहा था और दूसरी तरफ लोमड़ा सारी खीर चट कर गया।
सारस ने भी लोमड़े को सबक सिखाने की ठानी। दूसरे दिन जब लोमड़ा दावत उड़ाने आया तो सारस ने भी बड़े प्यार से उसका स्वागत किया।
जब खाने का वक़्त हुआ तो सारस ने भी एक लम्बी और तंग गर्दन वाली सुराही में खीर परोस दी और कहना लगा – आओ भाई मुजाहिद, खाना तैयार है। तुम्हें खीर बहुत पसंद है न और तुम बहुत मज़े से खीर खाते हो इसलिए मेने भी तुम्हारी पसंद की खीर बनाई है।
इतना बोलकर सारस तो अपनी चोंच सुराही में डालकर खीर खाने में मगन हो गया और खीर की तारीफ करता रहा। लेकिन लोमड़े का मुँह सुराही में नहीं जा सकता था। वह कभी सुराही में पड़ी खीर को देखता तो कभी अपनी करनी पर पछताता। वह लज्जित होकर वहाँ से चला गया।

It occurred a long time ago. A fox named Mujahid and a stork named Sartaj lived together in a forest. Both had very good friends too. They both used to talk about happiness and sorrow together. But even then both of them did not get along with the other.
The fox was very cunning and stingy. He knew how to take things from others, but being selfish, he did not like to give any of his things to anyone. One day when both of them were talking together, they both made a plan to go to each other’s house and have dinner. Mujahid the fox first invited Sartaj stork to his house for dinner.
The fox knew how to eat but not how to feed. He thought what should I make such a thing which tastes good but even the stork could not eat it? The idea of making kheer came into his mind. Because kheer will look good and tasty as well and the stork will not be able to eat it easily.
The next day the stork came to his friend Mujahid the fox’s house to eat food. He looked very happy because of his innocent nature. The fox was very clever. Seeing the stork coming home, to keep him happy, he started talking softly and sweetly.

The stork also decided to teach a lesson to the fox. The next day, when the fox came to blow the feast, the stork also welcomed him with great love.
When it was time to eat, the stork also served kheer in a long and narrow-necked jug and said – Come, brother Mujahid, the food is ready. You like kheer very much and you eat kheer with great pleasure, so I have also made kheer of your choice.
By saying this, the stork, by putting its beak in the jar, became engrossed in eating kheer and kept praising the kheer. But the fox’s mouth could not go into the jar. Sometimes he would look at the kheer lying in the jug and sometimes he would regret his actions. He left there feeling ashamed.
